Hello Tokyo in Niles offers an experience closer to wandering through a Japanese neighborhood market than your typical discount or grocery store. It’s a spot where locals with a curiosity for Japanese lifestyle products can browse a broad range of items sourced directly from Japan — from familiar snack foods to quirky household goods and protective clothing.

The vibe inside is casual and lively, with an eclectic mix of shelves packed with candies, beverages, beauty products, anime figures, and small trinkets. You might find yourself picking up a handful of colorful snacks alongside some stationery or a collectible toy. Prices can vary quite a bit; while many products are around the $2.25 mark, some specialty items like anime merchandise extend into higher price ranges, reflecting their niche appeal.

The staff at Hello Tokyo tend to be friendly and helpful, adding to a comfortable browsing experience. It’s the kind of place where you can spend a good chunk of time exploring the distinct and sometimes unexpected items that make Japanese culture accessible in this part of the Chicago suburbs. While the store can feel a little busy or packed depending on when you visit, there’s a steady rotation of new arrivals that keeps each visit interesting.

This spot suits shoppers who enjoy discovering unique, fun, and practical products without a hefty price tag. Visitors often come looking for something specific — whether a snack from childhood, a quirky kitchen accessory, or a fun collectible — but tend to leave with a touch of surprise in their shopping bags. Weekdays or early evenings might be best for those who prefer a more relaxed browsing pace.

The presence of Hello Tokyo also highlights the local area's growing enthusiasm for Japanese culture, reflected in the wider selection of similar stores nearby. Lots of different products from Japan. Different foods and snacks items. This store also has beauty supplies and toys. Gundums and popular anime figures. There are lots of small trinkets to see too!

First time going to the store and the only reason I’m giving it a four out of five stars is because the title on the outside of the door is deceiving. It reads that everything inside the store is $2.25 and that is not the case. The stuffed animals, collectibles and so much more are definitely more than $2.25. They did have some things that were $2.25 but they had a lot of things that were not. There were still some great options and we left with a lot of goodies! Definitely worth checking out but bring your checkbook if you want a hello Kitty plush.

In Nile, Illinois, an extraordinary shopping experience awaits at an authentic Japanese dime store. With an entirely Japanese-sourced inventory, prices vary from $1 to $30-$40 for rare Anime items, but most range around $2.25. This store's wide selection accommodates diverse tastes and age ranges, providing food, beverages, and candies along a wide variety of household products.

This place rocks and I hope it grows into a chain. It also shows there is a big following of Japanese culture and life. Such diversity in this place and the other Japanese stores, I have visited in the area. I give this place 5 stars, because the staff was extremely nice. I hope everyone visits "Hello Tokyo," even though I keep calling it "Hello Kitty."

This store is full of fun, quirky and unique products. Ranging from household goods, stationary products, apparel and the list goes on. You're guaranteed to find something you probably don't need, but will happily use at a affordable price. There's a decent rotation of new products, so it's always worth a visit.

Love this place so much, it’s the closest thing we have to a Daiso in the Chicagoland area! They sell everything from Asian snacks to stationery to household products and kitchenware. Everything is so inexpensive and cute, we come here every time we’re in the area!

Great little place to find anime figurines, oriental makeup, and little knicknacks. Has some candy, chips and Ramen. Also has a little photobooth. I enjoyed it and will probably return in the future
